CHOOSING THE RIGHT WHIP FOR YOU

It is a good idea to start with a Red Hide whip first then when you think your good enough you can go to the
Kangaroo skin whip and keep the Red Hide for when freinds want to have a go that way you keep the best whip for you only
First you have to decide on a Bull whip or a Stock whip then you have to look at where you are going to be using the whip.
On grass and other smooth surfaces the Kangaroo skin whips are far better.
On rough ground the more the plait the shorter the life of the whip
On a very rough surface a four plait red or white hide whip will last longer than a Kangaroo skin whip.
Choosing the length of a whip depends on how much space you have and how long you like a whip to be.

CARING FOR YOUR WHIP

The best made whip in the world won't last long if it is not looked after.
How long a whip lasts depends on how well it is made, where you use it, and how you look after it.
To prolong the life of a whip try not to get the whip too wet when a wet whip dries out,
the leather tends to become hard and brittle, and liable to rot.
Always keep it well oiled to prevent this.
A good lubricant to use is animal fat (dripping / lard). However, any natural animal fat will do.
Crackers will come off. Without a cracker the fall will wear down fast so don't crack a whip without a cracker.

It is much easier and cheaper to replace a cracker than a fall.

SIZING OF WHIPS

The specifications of whips are shown by the following formula " A x B x C ", where :-

"A" is the length of the plaited whip in feet. (All whips)
"B" is the plait of the whip. (All whips)
"C" is the plait of a full plaited handle. (Stock whips only)

A 7 x 8 x 16 Kangaroo skin stock whip specifies a 7 foot long whip in 8 plait with a 16 plait full plaited handle.

All stock whips will be supplied with a default handle.
Kangaroo skin stock whips come with a matching full plait handle (as shown on the Kangaroo Skin stock whip)
Red hide and White hide stock whips come on a half plait handle (as shown on the Red hide stock whip)
if "C" above is not specified.

The plait of the handle on stock whips does not have to match the plait of the whip.
